There is a fine compliment of 25 gardens ranging in size from the tiniest cottage gardens to the vast wilderness that is Glenveagh National Park. There are a number of historically interesting gardens established in the mid 19th century as well as many new gardens made and developed in the past decade. The garden
at Cille, awarded Donegal Garden Trail – Garden of Distinction in 2010 is such a new garden.
The gardens are grouped in colour codes according to where they are in the county. There are specific open times listed but in many cases the gardens state that visiting at other times can be arranged to suit visitors. Please also take note that some of the gardens are at their best in late summer. On the Map Page you will find all the garden locations as well as the locations of nurseries and garden centres where plants can be purchased. For your own comfort, always come prepared, especially with good footwear – Donegal has an ever-changing climate! All the information relating to opening times, contact details and directions for the Trail gardens can be accessed on this website. A guide to the length of time it takes to view a garden is indicated on each profile page.
