Carrablagh House

Carrablagh House and its outstanding grounds are a fine example of an historic country garden dating to the mid 19th century. Originally the home of the Hart family the property is set on the eastern cliffs of the Fanad peninsula where Lough Swilly meets the North Atlantic Ocean. The surrounding planted woodlands protect the specimen collections within. This most intimate, classic Irish “Robinsonian” style garden has a magical atmosphere, sheltering its botanical treasures in a series of groves through the woods. The delightful tiny walled garden near the house is filled with botanical rarities that include trees, shrubs and herbs. Here you will meet a venerable Maiden Hair Tree (Ginkgo biloba), The Hankerchief Tree (Davidia involucrata) Japanese maples, Chinese palm trees, Camellias, azaleas, Persian Ironwood and many more.

May is the ideal month to visit to enjoy the many varieties of Rhododendron that flower profusely at this time. This is a magical garden to linger in!
